Yuyu Shen — Build with why.
Founder & CEO, Hopperlace · London
I'm a product person that knows architecture (Certified Claude Architect), a builder who likes to research (ICML TAIGR 2026), and most importantly, a techie who cares about people more than technology. I'm run by deep curiosity and like to ask why, and I started to build everything with the same question: why is this a good thing in this world? And because AI is my background, that question sharpens into a second one — how does this actually help AI benefit humanity? It's the test I run my work through.
Alongside Hopperlace, I'm building Value Compass, an independent public-interest project that brings together who's behind the AI tools we use and the values they operate by, so that becomes something people can weigh — not just what a tool can do. The early V0 version is here — this is a work in progress, and the current version does not represent the idea fully due to its limited scale and early edges on data, scoring and usability, but it's meant to get the conversation started.
Before this, I spent over a decade leading AI products at Meta, Walmart, Beamery, and Cleo, with an MS in Statistics underneath it all. I think about AI's impact on humans, the design of human–AI systems, and — increasingly — the concentration of power in AI and what it means for the rest of us.
